I'm here after watching the spongebob trailers for the lighthouse.

Protip for watching: get close to the screen, and wear headphones. Believe it or not, this movie was made to watch in a theater. If you sit on your couch, you will miss out. Why am I just finding out about this movie it looks interesting. First, I love Defoe. He is one of the all time best and has shown that good looks does not make a good actor. He can carry a movie like this by himself. But, this simply was too much for even him to carry. br> First, the black and white... it is 2020 lol. the only reason for this is simply the lack of money and a complete story to carry a plot. Simply ridiculous. Anyone who tries to praise this use is just lying to you and not telling the truth. Black and white brings nothing to a story and is just a way to hide the lack of production and direction, period. it is used to cover flaws...
Having said that, this story has been told before and more than once. Loosely based on two true stories, one in America and one across the pond, both having some things in common.
Simply put, these kinds of stories with one or in this case two or three actors is extremely difficult and can be incredibly boring for the patron.
Defoe is brilliant as always. but I wish he had not done this film. It just takes away from the brilliant actor that he is. If you have some mind numbing time to waste go for it. It is like finger nails on chalk togo to see how defoe can carry a film and the great use of color and the surroundings to make a film.
They could have filmed the surroundings in beautiful color and really spiced it up and at least made it watchable. The other films, even the foreign film, were way better. Suggest you look for them and skip this. these over rated reviews are just an attempt to get you to watch. this is a real review from a person like you who does not have the money or time to waste. don't waste either...

Interesting premise, but not entirely original: social outcasts are given a devil's bargain to undertake a dangerous mission (proscribed by a state entity with control over people's lives) with unknown outcomes in return eedom/clemency/escape, etc. This movie is going to be frustrating to people who prefer linear story lines that allow the viewer to make clean linkages between scenes, characters, motivations behind actions, and a neat ending that ties up all the loose ends. Much like Under The Skin, Arrival, The Fountain, and 2001 A Space Odyssey, High Life is going to require the viewer to infer the central plot from disjointed flash backs along the story line arc, and be comfortable with ambiguity intended to allow each viewer to draw their own conclusions. The pace is slow and dwells frequently on conflicts from which I could only assume the director's motive was to build tension in the viewer to reflect what grows within each character over time (years) as they come to grips with their reality. and the likely outcome of their mission. Even though the story takes place on an interstellar ship on its way to a black hole many light years away from Earth, this is a drama centered on how individuals cope with circumstances beyond their control and loneliness. Only Robert Pattisions character has something in his life, on that ship, to give him love and hope.

The lighthouse church houston. I just loved the nod to pink guy here, it warmed my heart. This movie was very well done. The vibe, the cinematography, the acting, the music, were all great. However, this was a very masculine movie. And no I'm not talking about "toxic masculinity" or an feminist view point here at all, but it was very masculine and boring for me.
The story is about two very masculine men who end up competing with one another on a desolate island in the middle of the sea. I'm not sure what they were competing for exactly, which is why I believe this movie would have spoken far deeper to a mans sub conscious, than a woman's.
Either way, they both seemed to have turned crazy with the alcohol consumption and isolation.
The sexual aspects of the movie were very real and honest and I appreciated that part of the film, because I'd imagine, sexually speaking, the isolation would drive you mad. You'd start imagining insane things to turn yourself on etc. Which is what seemed to have happened for both of them.
Anyways, I would check this movie out for the sole purpose of it is a beautiful film, well written, well acted, very honest and slightly disturbing which is exactly what life is deep down. The director spoke to the honesty a lot of try to ignore and I appreciated that, however I did almost fall asleep and I never fall asleep watching movies I enjoy.
